Year 3 Trip to Samphire Hoe
On Tuesday Year 3 went on a school trip to Samphire Hoe. We spent a lot of the day outside, exploring the beautiful landscape and learning how to observe nature more keenly, particularly the incredible birdlife in the area.
We enjoyed using various instruments to measure the weather, including a thermometer to measure the temperature (it was a chilly 6 degrees Celsius) and a compass to find the wind direction (south-westerly) as well as an anemometer to measure the strength.
We spent time observing different rock types and their properties, testing rocks for both hardness and for buoyancy, which tied in beautifully with our science lessons this term, bringing our learning to life!
The children also really enjoyed a scavenger hunt on the beach, and we carried back a lot of our interesting finds to the teaching area where we spent time after lunch, observing and sketching them.
It was a fabulous day, and though it was rather cold, the children showed great interest in all the outside learning and asked insightful and thought-provoking questions of Ranger Paul.
