We are seeking to recruit an experienced, passionate, and effective practitioner, to join our successful and dedicated team of ASD specialist staff.  This position is to be worked for 18.5 hours per week, over 2 and a half days per week, 38 weeks of the year.  

Our school has an established specialist resource provision, where children make excellent progress and achieve highly. We are looking for a person who has qualifications, skills, and ambition to enable specific pupils accomplish their learning and personal targets.

Essential skills

  • The use of independent initiative when supporting pupils in the SRP.
  • Knowledge of Sickle Cell Disease HbSC or be willing to undertake training to develop knowledge.
  • Experience of working with pupils with limited verbal communication who use alternative communication systems such as PECs or Makaton.
  •  
  • The ability to work with a team in a responsive and flexible manner, responding to the instruction and advice of the SENCo, SRP team and class teachers.
  • Ability to reflect and see solutions in daily teaching, in own practice and that of the team.
  • To share ideas for the adjustment of learning so that pupils with SEND know and remember more.
  • To build effective trusting relationships with parents, external agencies, and a range of professionals.
  • To use knowledge of research and experience to bring ideas and methods of support to the SENCo and school team to enable all children to reach their full potential.
  • An understanding of or willingness to undertake training to support pupils with sickle cell disease.
  • A willingness and interest in using CPD to further develop career.

Qualifications

  • Teaching Assistant experience and qualifications.
  • Proven ability to teach pupils with ASD effectively through the use of dynamic & engaging techniques.
  • Experience/secure understanding of working with SEMH pupils.
